About the event
In 2015, 45000 children were found to be at risk of harm, in Australia. Since COVID lockdowns trauma has become even more prevalent. As educators we are an important source of safety and comfort for children who come from traumatic home environments. As awareness grows, the educational world’s interest in trauma informed practice also increases.Â
There are two types of trauma: simple and complex. In this full day session we will discuss brain development and the impact of (primarily complex) trauma on the developing brain. We will look at how trauma impacts behaviours, memory and relationships. Further to this we will explore trauma informed care and environments, including mindful education.Â
Join Kate, a childhood trauma survivor herself, for a true insight in to the impact of complex trauma; and learn how you can be a healing hero for the children affected, just like Kate's teachers were for her. You will go home with a helpful resource kit to continue your trauma informed journey. Some of the topics covered are listed below.Â
- Neurosequential development and functions of different regions of the brain.
- Brain development - building neural connections.
- The impact of trauma on children’s neuroarchitecture.
- The psychology of trauma.
- Imapct on the learning jouney.
- The importance of relationships in building resilience.Â
- Creating a trauma informed environment
- Mindful education practices including building self regulation techniques.
This PD is particularly beneficial to services catering to children who have experienced trauma, children with additional needs, and children displaying challanging behaviours. Cost includes lunch and resource pack. Presented by owner/director Kate, who will use her personal experiences as a trauma survivor to help inspire your trauma informed education.Â
